According to a statement read following the summit, religious figures noted that delaying the election of the only Christian president in the Arab world hinders Lebanon’s role in the region.
Religious figures also called on Lebanese officials to consolidate their efforts to speed up the release of Lebanese troops who were kidnapped during clashes with armed groups in the northeastern border town of Arsal.
The statement also stated that religious figures discussed the continuous influx of Syrian refugees into the Lebanese territories, calling on the local and international community to support Lebanon in handling this issue.
The statement also read that “crimes against Christians are crimes committed against humanity and are an insult to Islam,” pointing out that a Christian-Muslim committee will be formed to discuss the issue of violating the rights of Christian in the Arab world.
