Bassil to LBCI: Majority of Lebanese endorse my electricity plan

Energy Minister Gebran Bassil told Kalam Ennas on Thursday that the blame should not be placed on anyone with regards to the electricity issue, calling for escalating pressure in the upcoming phase to implement reforms plans.  

Bassil added that he is not against working with Arab and international funds, confirming that he is on good terms with them. The energy minister Future movement and March 14 forces of seeking to sabotage the cabinet, recalling that March 14 bloc is also represented in the current government.

Bassil stressed that part of the cabinet is under external influence, adding that those who take to the streets burning tires are those who do not pay the electricity bill.

“I will blow the whistle on each one impeding the electricity issue and I will call people to take to the streets to protest against them”, he said, adding that he is not pointing any fingers.

“67% of the Lebanese endorse my electricity plan”, Bassil said, confirming that there will be no increase in electricity fees in the near future.  

Speaking on the issue of red diesel oil, Bassil recalled that he had repeatedly stated that the subsidies will end up “in the traders’ pocket”.

Bassil said that out of 22.5 billion diesel tanks, oil facilities have returned 3 billion, therefore no theft occurred.
