Geagea calls on deputies to head to Parliament to elect new president

Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea said Thursday that instead of wasting time in exchanging accusations, the Lebanese lawmakers can lead the country out of vacuum, term extension and obstruction, by electing a new president.

In a post shared on his Facebook page, Geagea called on all “those who are against vacuum, those who claim to reject the extension of the Parliament's mandate and serve the interests of the Christians in Lebanon, to head to Parliament today and elect a new president.”

On Wednesday, Lebanese lawmakers held a parliamentary session under the chairmanship of Speaker Nabih Berri and extended the term of the parliament until 2017 with 95 votes, and amid the boycott of the Free Patriotic Movement and Kataeb party MPs.
