Lebanon’s PM Salam returns to Beirut following official visit to France
Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam and Defense Minister Samir Moqbel returned on Saturday evening to Beirut following an official visit to the French capital, Paris, the state-run National News Agency reported.       

Prime Minister Salam said on Friday (December 12) France would soon prepare to deliver weapons to Lebanon, as per a deal worth $3 billion signed last month.         

Salam said after a meeting with French President Francois Hollande in Paris his country's security was under control thanks to the Lebanese army.
       
“It is known that we are in Lebanon facing uneasy security situations. In Lebanon we were able to put an end to that because all the Lebanese supported their army and their security forces. It is safe now in Lebanon and the Lebanese are united and there is no place for any security mistake or terrorism”.          

France and Lebanon signed a Saudi-funded deal last month to provide French weapons and military hardware to the Lebanese army to help it fight jihadis encroaching from neighboring Syria.         

“Very soon France will start to prepare and deliver to us the weapons that the Lebanese army need in order to protect Lebanon and the Lebanese people,” he said.       

French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said in October the deal included land, air and naval equipment.
