PSP leader Jumblatt questions civil society’s role in food safety campaign
National Struggle Front leader MP Walid Jumblatt on Wednesday raised questions about the civil society’s role in the food safety campaign that has been launched by Health Minister Wael Abou Faour.

“Where is the voice of the so-called civil society that should be coupled with this huge effort?” MP Jumblatt asked via his Twitter account.

“What is the civil society’s stance regarding the Beirut slaughterhouse, heritage and the need to preserve it?” he asked, adding “the civil society is without substance”.

“Abou Faour’s campaign is accelerating and nothing will stop it,” MP Jumblatt noted, saying “the airport warehouses scandal has revealed that negligence involves all state institutions”.

Health Minister Wael Abou Faour along with Public Works Minister Ghazi Zoueiter visited on Tuesday the Beirut–Rafic Hariri International Airport.

Following a tour inside, Minister Zoueiter stated that warehouses at the airport are "death chambers for the health of citizens," calling on all officials to bear their responsibilities.

For his part Minister Abou Faour noted that the structure of the airport building does not comply with the set requirements, adding that certain foodstuffs stored at the airport had expired in the year 1995.
