Family of kidnapped soldier visits him in Arsal
The family of kidnaped soldier Abdel Rahim Diab said on Saturday that they visited him on the outskirts of the border town of Arsal, describing his condition as “tragic.”

In a statement, the family of Diab said that the visit took place on Wednesday, refusing to disclose further details.

“We will remain silent concerning the circumstances of the visit at the will of the follow up committee, in accordance with the secrecy policy and in a bid to maintain the lives of the kidnapped troops,” the statement said.

“My son's life is within your hands,” the mother of the abducted pleaded.

Negotiations with the al-Qaeda-affiliate al-Nusra Front and the Islamic State became discrete after the government urged the families to remain silent about the mediation in the case to ensure the release of their loved ones.

The troops were kidnapped by the Islamist gunmen in the wake of clashes in the border town of Arsal in August.

A few of them have since been released; four were executed, while the rest are still being held.
