Lebanese man fakes own abduction to cover embezzlement

The Internal Security Forces Intelligence Bureau said on Wednesday in a statement that a man confessed of faking his own kidnapping to cover the funds he embezzled from his company.

The statement added that the man identified as N.H., who is an accountant at a commercial establishment in the northern city of Tripoli, faked his own abduction at the hands of alleged abductors.

The “assailants” sent an SMS to the victim’s wife from his phone directed to his establishment claiming a ransom amounting to 8 million Lebanese pounds.

They also warned that they would kidnap more employees if their demands were not met.

After further investigations, it appeared that N.H. was never kidnapped and that he had “fabricated the entire scenario in order to embezzle money from his employer.”

He has since been arrested and confessed to the attempted embezzlement of 8 million Lebanese pounds. He was apprehended in Tripoli's Abi Samra neighborhood on Monday.
