Social Affairs Minister Rashid Derbass stressed Monday that “the Lebanese state rejects any racist approach directed at Syrian refugees,” noting that Lebanon is not a country of asylum and is not committed to the rules adopted by such nations.
“However, from a humanitarian aspect, Lebanon has offered Syrian refugees more than any other country in the world,” he added.
In a press conference, the minister said that Lebanon is currently a weak country due to the many financial and political challenges, "but still treats refugees in the best possible way... although many did violate the country's law."
“Despite the many violations and illegal infiltration, the Lebanese government has not deported any refugee,” he explained.
In this context, Minister Derbass declared that the government is ready to facilitate the refugees’ return to their home country or their travel to other countries,” revealing that there will be cooperation with the Syrian government regarding any plan to bring a number of refugees back to Syria.
