Homosexuals in Lebanon trapped by prejudice, discrimination and an unjust law
Lebanese homosexuals still suffer from prejudice and discrimination; while some call them “gays”, others consider them to be “sexually obsessed”, in addition to many other weird names.       
We see these homosexuals every day, in universities, at schools, on the streets, at work; some people recognize them while others don’t.       

Many of them do not have the audacity to reveal their sexual identity for fear of their society and family in a country where the family’s honor is often related to its sons’ sexual choices, and where homosexuality turns into some kind of a crime.     

The discrimination homosexuals feel is stipulated in the Lebanese law that considers homosexuality to be a crime.         

In a related context, the Helem Association working to combat discrimination against homosexuals will celebrate, with some delay, the World Day Against Homophobia on June the 3rd. This day’s activities will be carried out under the slogan “I vote too… the law must protect me”.
