Al-Jaafari to UN chief: Some Lebanese regions harbor members of al-Qaeda

Syrian ambassador to the United Nations, Bashar al-Jaafari, revealed on Friday that some Lebanese regions harbor terrorist members of al-Qaeda and Muslim Brotherhood that are destabilizing security in Syria, pointing out information that Colonel Riad al-Assad arrived in Lebanon to prepare for the establishment of a Syrian buffer Zone.

In a letter to U.N. Chief Ban Ki-Moon, al-Jaafari stressed that there are 50 terrorists in the town of Kalamoun carrying card with the U.N. emblem that they use to pass through Lebanese army checkpoints.

Al-Jaafari added that injured terrorists are being treated under fake names in hospital affiliated with the Future Movement and under the financial support of Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

Al-Jaafari also pointed out that arms are being smuggled from Lebanon into Syria onboard planes and ships under the pretext of carrying humanitarian aid for Syrian refugees.

The ambassador revealed that on March 13, 2012, an unidentified warship docked off the city of Jounieh as small boats began to carry the shipped arms in order to deliver them to Syria. Moreover, boats carrying arms also docked at the Aqua Marina port near Jounieh as the shipped arms were later delivered to Akkar and then to Wadi Khaled, ahead of their smuggling into Syria.
