Charbel: proportional representation is the way forward

Interior Minister Marwan Charbel said on Monday that he will present a comprehensive proposal on the parliamentary electoral law, which was prepared by the Interior Ministry, during a meeting with the committee tasked with drafting the law.

“The committee is formed of party representatives and all the political movements,” Charbel told al-Joumhouria newspaper. He said: “Monday’s meeting will pave the way for other meetings that will, on Tuesday, include civil associations’ representatives and women associations.”

Asked about the current security situation in Lebanon, the minister stressed: “The situation is under control and the necessary security measures are being implemented properly.” Charbel stressed the need to inform the people about the ministry of interior’s draft law project.

The new law according to Charbel is nearly complete after a meeting with an electoral law specialist last week.
