Series of ranks and salaries; a burden on the Lebanese Republic
As-Safir newspaper published on Tuesday an article that surprised the whole Lebanese society including deputies and ministers.

The series approved by cabinet costs 1.2 Billion Dollars and suffers from a fundamental problem: lack of sufficient funding.

Within this framework, the As-Safir economic editorialist, Adnan Hajj stated that officials will benefit the most should the series of ranks and salaries be passed, pointing that Ministers and Deputies will gain 4 to 6 million LBP extra.

Hajj mentioned to LBCI that 30 ministers, 128 deputies, and 3 head officials will cost the republic 8.5 Billion LBP each year.

For its part, the presidential information office corrected what was mentioned in the report saying that the Lebanese President had requested that necessary funds be provided in order to cover the expenses of the series.

The president also asked not to increase the salaries of presidents, deputies and ministers, a request refused by the cabinet.

The information office stressed that this increase does not apply to the current President of the Republic based on Article 63 of the Lebanese Constitution.
