Civil Campaign for Electoral Reform raises its voice in Riad Solh Square
The Civil Campaign for Electoral Reform staged another sit-in today, this time at the Riad Solh Square. The sit-in comes in the wake of a peaceful demonstration held before the house of parliament yesterday whereby protesters were brutally handled by members of the security forces. The demonstrators were members of the CCER and were peacefully demanding reform of the electoral law.

Today’s campaigners raised banners reading slogans such as: "You know you are in Lebanon, where the ministry is for men while the apron is reserved for the women”.

In this context, Lebanese Physically handicapped Union chief HASSAN MROUEH stated that “all the campaign wanted was to make its voice heard to the committee members gathered inside parliament, and who were at the time discussing the electoral law”.

“We wanted to let them know what we’ve had enough! Enough mockery of the basic rights of the Lebanese people,” Mroueh stressed.

Mroueh reiterated the call for a modern electoral law asking the government:  “when will  the Lebanese claim their rights? Or are these rights only reserved on the basis of clanism?”
