Sehnaoui: revealing passwords of citizens is an unacceptable matter

The Information Branch at the Internal Security Forces demanded on Monday the content of text messages for all the Lebanese citizens as well as passwords for each Lebanese account on Facebook in the framework of investigations in the assassination of Brigadier General Wissam al-Hassan.

For his part, Minister of Telecommunications Nicolas Sehnaoui said that infringing citizens' privacy by revealing passwords of 3 million 700 thousand Lebanese is an unacceptable matter.

"I referred this demand to the Cabinet so that it may bear responsibility in this regard," he added.

On the other hand, a top official said that the country is facing a serious situation, and it has to choose between revealing "terrorists" and maintaining a small part of its people's privacy.

"The whole matter is based on trust, if they don't trust the ISF administration, let them call for its resignation," he concluded.
