Arslan calls for the abolishment of the 1960’s electoral law

Lebanese Democratic Party leader Talal Arslan held a press conference on Friday with talks on the electoral law featuring high. “The electoral law has become a charade. It seems there is a tendency to prevent the Lebanese from achieving reform,” Arslan said.         

The Democratic Party Leader stressed the necessity to adopt the proportionality law since it "assures fair representation" adding that Lebanon’s salvation can only come through the abolishment the 1960’s law.                

“Those who are holding onto the Taif Accord are also supporting the 1960’s law.”                    

Arslan called on all political, civil and religious fronts to set aside the 60’s law and instead thoroughly consider the law of proportionality.                   

“Those who reject proportionality have a single aim to prevent all Lebanese from participating in a real political life.”
