Charbel to form new ministerial committee to follow up the case of detainee George Abdallah

Following his meeting with Interior Minister Marwan Charbel, Joseph Abdallah, brother of the detainee George Abdallah, said that Charbel promised to discuss during the upcoming cabinet session the formation of a new committee tasked with following up the case of his sibling with French authorities.

Joseph Abdallah who presided a delegation representing the advocates of the international campaign to release Abdallah from French prisons, said that the Lebanese state is more democratic than France.

When asked about the protests, Joseph Abdallah stated that the demonstrators will continue until his brother is released.

The French judiciary decided Thursday the 10th of January to release Lebanese national George Ibrahim Abdallah "provided that he be deported", AFP reported.

Abdallah was jailed 28 years ago for attacks on U.S. and Israeli diplomats in France. The General prosecution has previously appealed the decision of his release.

He was arrested in 1984 and sentenced to life in prison three years later for his alleged involvement in the 1982 murders of U.S. military attache Charles Robert Ray and Israeli diplomat Yacov Barsimantov.
