Nasrallah: Hezbollah MPs to vote in favor of Orthodox Gathering proposal

Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah delivered a televised speech on Friday on the occasion of the Birth of The Prophet.   Nasrallah first tackled religious subjects and stressed that the Islam is a religion that calls for equity among all humans.

He then commented on the situation in the Arab region and said that Lebanon is the country influenced the most by the surrounding tensions.   According to Nasrallah, “not all wars are caused by religious or sectarian tensions. Most of them are the result of political decisions.”   In this context, Hezbollah leader suggested that Arab people should seek dialogue to settle their differences.

On Israel, Nasrallah reiterated Hezbollah’s position and affirmed that “Lebanon's defense against Israeli threats relies on the equation "People, Army, Resistance".

He commented as well on the Israeli Knesset elections that were held on January 22nd and said that their result proved that there is no powerful bloc to lead the Israeli state.  “Sharon was Israel's last king”, he declared.

Nasrallah then tackled the controversial issue of the Lebanese electoral law proposals and said: “Those who are alluding that were are controlling the Christians and we decide which electoral law to implement, are exaggerating and are insulting the Christian community.

“Lebanese Christians concerns are growing after witnessing the discrimination of the Christians of the Orient,” he added.

Nasrallah stressed that “once proportionality is applied in the elections, all political parties who have supporters can arrive to power.”

“Money and media invested in the elections are more dangerous than any weapon,” Nasrallah stated.

He also revealed that Hezbollah MPs will vote in favor of the electoral draft law proposed by the Orthodox Gathering or the proportionality law proposed by the cabinet.
