MP Harb calls for the formation of a new government

MP Boutros Harb said on Wednesday that the suggestions being currently submitted send out a message that there may be behind-the-scenes agreements to defer the upcoming parliamentary elections or to form a government under the outgoing Prime Minister Najib Mikati or other candidates.

Following his meeting with the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon Derek Plumbly, MP Harb stressed the need to exert tireless efforts in order to reach an agreement over the new electoral law and to hold the parliamentary elections on their due date.

"If the elections were to be deferred, let it be for a short period in order to uphold democracy in Lebanon," he said.

In this context, MP Harb reiterated his refusal to resort to dialogue in a bid to tackle the formation of a new government, noting that Lebanese parties should solely discuss the presence of arms and the defense strategy.
