Speaker Berri says Lebanon insists on Israeli compliance before resuming negotiations

Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri emphasized that a ceasefire and Israeli willingness to withdraw from at least one occupied area are prerequisites for further negotiations, according to an interview with ASAS Media.

"Not only is that what we seek, but without it, we cannot accept continuing the meetings. It is either negotiation or no negotiation," Berri said.

He added that the talks require concrete actions rather than goodwill.

"Lebanon has fulfilled its obligations under the ceasefire agreement. The army is fully deployed and has cleared all areas south of the Litani River. In contrast, Israel has not met its obligations and continues daily attacks in the south," Berri said.

The parliament speaker noted that Lebanon is not relying on Israel's military apparatus but is monitoring political positions, including recent statements by U.S. President Donald Trump urging Israel to pursue diplomatic solutions.

Asked whether he believes Israel is ready to concede anything, Berri responded, "That is what we are focusing on."
