Caretaker PM Mikati urges formation of an "embracing government"

Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati slammed on Tuesday the one-sided rule in Lebanon, urging the formation of an "embracing government" that does not grant veto power to any party.

Caretaker PM Mikati voiced rejection for the formation of "a fait accompli government", stressing however that granting veto power to a certain party would not help in overcoming obstacles at hand.

He warned that Lebanon would lose stability if changes were to be made to the already delicate balance reached via national consensus.

Mikati resigned in March after two fraught years in office during which he sought to contain sectarian tensions, street violence and economic fallout from the civil war raging in neighboring Syria.

Tammam Salam was named Prime Minister-Designate after the second round of the binding parliamentary consultations to name a prime minister ended on April 6 at the Baabda Palace, with 124 deputies nominating Salam as Prime Minister.

Disputes between the March 8 and 14 alliances have been on the rise over an electoral draft-law which would supersede the 1960 law.
