Mikati calls on political leaders to cooperate with LAF

Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati said on Wednesday that the official Lebanese stance is to abide by the policy of dissociation in regards to the incidents taking place in Syria and to the Baabda declaration, the state-run National News Agency reported.

In this context, Lebanon's permanent representative to the Arab League, Khaled Ziadeh, briefed Mikati on the results of the latest meeting held by Arab League representatives in Cairo whereby talks featured high on the incidents in Syria.

The Caretaker PM gave Ziadeh the needed instructions, highlighting Lebanon's commitment to the policy of dissociation and calling on Lebanese parties not to get involved in Syria's incidents.

On another note, Mikati stressed that the Lebanese political parties should launch dialogue to preserve the national and constitutional principles, adding that they should agree as soon as possible, on a new electoral law which paves the way for holding the upcoming parliamentary elections.

As for the situation in Tripoli, Mikati followed up with security leaders on the developments taking place in the city, stressing that the Lebanese Armed Forces have the full authority to take all necessary measures in order to end incidents compromising security in the country.

In this regard, Mikati called on political leaders to cooperate with the LAF and security apparatuses in a bid to maintain security and to shield Tripoli from political schism.
