REPORT: Bassil: Lebanon’s stability is threatened due to Syrian crisis
Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil stressed Saturday keenness on the presence of the Italian forces in Southern Lebanon, reiterating the country’s commitment to all international resolutions.

During a joint press conference held with his Italian counterpart Federica Mogherini, Bassil expressed gratitude to Italy’s efforts in supporting the Lebanese Armed Forces.

On another note, Bassil said that the Lebanese people will be the first to benefit from a political solution in Syria, stressing that Lebanon is concerned with the efforts deployed in order to reach an international decision regarding the events taking place in Syria.

“Lebanon’s stability is threatened due to the Syrian crisis and the continuous influx of Syrian refugees,” he added, pointing out that any financial support granted to the Syrian refugees will deepen the crisis.

For her part, Mogherini stressed the importance of supporting the Lebanese army, noting that her country will keep seeking further cooperation in a bid to resolve the issue of the refugees.

“A political solution is the sole solution for the Syrian crisis,” she stated.
