REPORT: Abou Faour says required criteria to ensure food safety will be distributed to all institutions

"While negligence in terms of food safety does exist in Lebanon, one must remain aware of the fact that many institution owners are in fact not familiar with the required standards," Health Minister Wael Abou Faour said Monday.

During a press conference, Abou Faour said that every owner must be acquainted with the guidelines, which the institution must abide with, beginning with infrastructure, the tools, the place where the food is being prepared, ventilation systems, lighting, personal hygiene, medical monitoring and storage of goods.

“These are the main criteria that must be taken care of,” the minister stressed, adding that the ministry will distribute the guidelines to all institutions.

On a separate note, the health minister stressed that hospitals mustn't operate on the basis of commercial profit, stressing that their priority must be providing the citizens with the needed medical assistance.
