Russia halts gas supplies to Poland and Bulgaria

In a significant escalation of relations with the West, Russian energy giant Gazprom has cut off gas supplies to both Bulgaria and Poland's state-owned gas utilities after the two nations refused to pay in rubles.

 

Russia has also denied the European Union's accusation that it is trying to "blackmail" the bloc with gas.
