Pope calls for "mutual respect" with Muslim world

Pope Francis called on Friday for "mutual respect" between Christianity and Islam, and to put an end to "unfair criticism", in his personal message congratulating Muslims on the Eid al-Fitr festivities.

Pope's stance came in a statement issued by the Vatican press office in which he urged the respect of "the religion, the teachings and the values of the other."

The statement was addressed "to Muslims throughout the world" and the Vatican explained that the message has been a tradition since 1967.

The feast of Eid al-Fitr celebrates the end of the holy month of Ramadan for all Muslims, a period of prayer and fasting.
