Scandal for the Israeli Army Command years after the July 2006 war

Israeli reserve soldiers detonated a scandal when they said that 6 years after the July 2006 war, the Israeli Army Command has not yet drawn the lessons from its previous failures mentioned in the report of the Winograd Committee. During a discussion held by the State Control Committee in the Knesset, they said that there is a dangerous setback in the performance of the officers and reserve soldiers, adding that they are not training enough to take the field and the equipment they are using is invalid.    

The reserve soldiers told Deputy Chief of Staff Yair Naveh that the situation of their units is dangerous, pointing out that many of the items and recommendations included in the Winograd Committee’s report were not implemented by the army. However, in front of the cameras, Naveh found himself compelled to continue promoting that his army is ready for all scenarios expected both in the north and the south.        

The army launched a campaign to promote its status, broadcasting photos of the Shahaf unit in the northern border collecting intelligence information on Hezbollah members and claiming that six years after the July 2006 war between Lebanon and Israel, Hezbollah intensified its deployment in most of the southern towns. The Israeli army announced that sophisticated control equipment is being used in order to determine the location of Hezbollah members, adding “in our activities here, we identify the enemy and plan how to eliminate it in the event of a war.”
