Damascus calls on opposition figures abroad to return to Syria, participate in dialogue

In a remarkable step, the Syrian Ministry of Interior announced that all opposition figures abroad who want to participate in the national dialogue are now allowed to enter Syria.

Earlier on Thursday, Syrian President Bashar Assad appeared on the Syrian state TV while participating in the ceremony marking the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad in a mosque in Damascus, in his first TV appearance since December 6.

Separately, the Syrian authorities called for “Prayers by the Millions” to be held on Friday throughout all mosques in Syria “for the return of peace to the country”.

Awqaf Minister Dr. Mohammad Abdul Sattar called on all Syrians to participate in the prayers.

The Minister of Religious Endowments in a statement broadcast by the official news agency also said that the country will defeat the “conspiracy against it”.

On the field:

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and activists reported on Thursday that Homs’ neighborhoods are being shelled by regime warplanes.

The Observatory reported as well that 7 men were killed during clashes on Wednesday evening, 6 of them being militants, stressing that the Syrian Army is trying to impose control in Homs.
