EU to unlock 16 bn euros for Hungary as Magyar presses reforms

EU chief Ursula von der Leyen said Friday that the bloc was ready to unlock more than 16 billion euros ($19 billion) for Hungary, as she praised early progress on reforms under the country's new leadership.

"We can already feel a strong wind of change across Hungary," von der Leyen told Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar after talks in Brussels, as she announced the decision to release funds frozen under the rule of his nationalist predecessor Viktor Orban.
