Mikati: Mufti Qabbani is the one who must create Dar al-Fatwa committee

PM Najib Mikati said on Thursday that Dar al-Fatwa should be an institution in all senses of the word, adding “rather than being affiliated to one person, it [Dar al-Fatwa] should depend on a comprehensive institutional framework”.

Following his meeting with former PMs Salim Hoss, Omar Karami and Fouad Siniora in the Grand Serail, Mikati underscored the importance of promoting, modernizing and reforming Dar al-Fatwa.

“It is not a matter of opening or closing files, it is about strengthening Dar al-Fatwa and Muslims in Lebanon”, Mikati said.

Mikati said that the former PMs assigned him with the task of intensifying meetings to follow-up on this subject, adding that meetings will remain open to non-Muslims in Lebanon.

Speaking on the establishment of a committee to follow-up on Dar al-Fatwa, Mikati said: “We are not in charge of creating such a committee; it is the responsibility of the Mufti of the Republic, Mohammad Rashid Qabbani”.
