Cabinet approves military appointments

The Cabinet Thursday approved the military appointments during a meeting that was held at the Grand Serail under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Tammam Salam.

A new session has been set for Tuesday to continue discussing Thursday's agenda, which will include an item that would make Civil Defense volunteers full-time employees.

Prior to the session, Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi stressed that he will discuss during the meeting the explosives that were in the possession of former Minister Michel Samaha, adding that he will leave his options open in this regard.

For his part, Social Affairs Minister Rashid Derbas said that the ministers will not discuss the dossier related to the waste management crisis.

In turn, Education Minister Elias Bou Saab stated that “if anyone wants to hamper the agreement on military appointments it would mean that they are the ones obstructing the government's work.”

This as Interior Minister Nouhad Mashnouq emphasized that the municipal elections will be held on time and the funds for it will be allocated today.

He also said that the file related to the Civil Defense volunteers will be included on the agenda of today’s session.
