REPORT: Ain al-Tineh meeting tackles waste scandal
Fifteenth session of the national dialogue was held Wednesday under the chairmanship of House Speaker Nabih Berri at his Ain al-Tineh residence.

All the leaders attended the session except for MPs Michel Aoun and Walid Jumblatt who were represented by former Minister Ghazi Aridi and Foreign Affairs Minister Gebran Bassil.

During the session, Berri tackled the waste crisis and concentrated the importance of reactivating the parliament’s work in the next stage.

The next session was announced to be held on the 9th of March, 2016.

On another note, Head of Kataeb party Samy Gemayel said that the Development and Reconstruction Council is not authorized to continue managing the waste file, calling on PM Tammam Salam to hold the defaulters accountable.

“The same mafia that has been robbing Lebanon for the past 15 years, is managing the waste file now,” he stated.

The deputy noted that his party had previously objected the waste deportation file, stressing that “they were right”.

“The Kataeb party did not escalate its approach towards this matter because we too wanted to get rid of the trash piled up on streets”, he added.

For his Part, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Gebran Bassil emphasized the need to distinguish between an economic migrant and safety seeker migrant”.

Bassil also pointed out that “the only solution to the Syrian refugee crisis is their decent return home.”
