Lebanon’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs vowed Wednesday to follow-up on the case of Nizar Zakka, who have been detained in Teheran since September 18, 2015 by the Iranian authorities.
The ministry issued a statement whereby it instructed the Lebanese embassy in Teheran to follow-up on the case in accordance with the Vienna Convention, which stipulates the need to guarantee consular protection for the detainee.
The ministry also noted that direct contacts have been conducted by Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil on all diplomatic levels, as well as regular contacts and meetings held by Lebanon’s ambassador to Iran Fadi Hajj Ali with Iranian officials, in a bid to ensure that the legal procedures are being correctly implemented concerning the case of Nizar Zakka.
