House Speaker Nabih Berri responded on Monday to remarks made by Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Mar Bechara Boutros Rai in his Sunday sermon.
Berri said, “I will let the history judge whether the package related to the names of the candidates that you suggested and the set of ideas that I proposed at the national dialogue are Constitutional and effective or not.”
“There is no need to target anyone’s dignity,” Berri added.
Yesterday, Patriarch Rai criticized Lebanese politicians for their attempts to broker an all-inclusive deal to end the country’s crises, saying such an agreement would strip the president of his constitutional jurisdiction.
“How can any presidential candidate who has dignity accept a prior package deal?” Rai asked.
