Egypt to witness televised debate between presidential candidates for the first time

For the first time in its history, Egypt will be witnessing this evening a televised debate between two candidates for the presidential elections which first round will be held on May 23rd and 24th.

The former Secretary General of the League of Arab States Amr Moussa will face Islamic moderate candidate Abdul Moneim Aboul Fotouh in this debate organized by two private TV stations.

The Egyptian presidential elections will put an end to a year-long troubled period of transition led by the country’s Military Council. This period followed a popular uprising that toppled former President Hosni Mubarak, ending his 30-year rule.
