Jumblatt contacts Suleiman, Mikati and Hezbollah over Tripoli incidents

National Struggle Front Head MP Walid Jumblatt, held a series of conversations on Sunday, in the wake of the recent security incidents that occurred in Tripoli.   

In this context, Jumblatt contacted President Michel Suleiman, PM Najib Mikati , Army Commander, General Jean Kahwaji, Intelligence Director Edmond Fadel, General Security Director General Abbas Ibrahim, as well as Hezbollah Coordination Unit Official Wafik Safa.     

Jumblatt stressed the need to set the detained Shadi Mawlawi free and solve the problem at stake in line with legal norms. He also highlighted the need for a political solution which guarantees keeping the Army away from being involved in Tripoli, and away from internal polarizations in a bid to preserve its role in ensuring civil peace.     

Jumblatt also stressed the necessity of complete coordination between various Lebanese security apparatuses through exchange of information prior to adopting any political decision, since that would guarantee preventing security chaos from prevailing in the country.     

Jumblatt demanded quick trials for the detained Islamists and closing said dossier completely and once and for all, so that justice would be achieved and tension would be eliminated.  

Regarding the Syrian crisis, Jumblatt highlighted the importance of protecting diversity in political opinions vis-à-vis developments in Syria.

However, he pointed to the need for avoiding falling into internal traps designed by the Syrian regime, in an attempt to veer attention away from the internal situation in Syria, Jumblatt noted.
