REPORT: President Aoun delivers Lebanon’s speech at Arab League Summit
 President Michel Aoun delivered a speech on Wednesday at the Arab League Summit held in Amman whereby he called on the Arab states to stop their wars and to gather around the dialogue table.

“My hope was to stand before you to talk about our achievements, but unfortunately, voices of explosions and scenes of killings overshadow any other subject,” Aoun said during his speech.

He also noted that “the storm that hit our region affected all nations,” adding that the Arab League “was unable to find solutions.”

Aoun noted that condemnation statements “are no longer enough,” urging the Arab League “to regain its role and mission in taking the lead and launch an effective initiative to stop the bloodshed.”
 
As for the refugee crisis, Aoun stresses that Lebanon hosts what is equal to half of its population, adding that figures are on the rise.
 
“Alleviating the misery of the refugees can only be done through their safe return to their homeland,” Aoun added.
 
He concluded by saying that Lebanon, “with its good relations with its neighboring countries is ready to re-establish bridges and to revive the language of dialogue.”
Earlier, Aoun arrived to the Arab League Summit and was received by Jordan's King Abdullah.

For his part, Prime Minister Saad hariri held talks with the Saudi Foreign Affairs Minister Adel Jubeir.

This as Lebanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Gebran Bassil met his Bahraini counterpart Sheikh Khalid Bin Ahmed Al Khalifa.
