REPORT: Optimism in Grand Serail, Hariri says work ongoing to overcome difficulties

The cabinet convened on Wednesday at the Grand Serail with a regular agenda on the table of discussion.

Following the session, Interior Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq stressed that “if the proportionality electoral law was passed with 15 electoral constituencies, a period of 3 months is not enough to hold the elections.”

In turn, sources from the Future Movement told LBCI that they expect an extraordinary parliamentary session to be held after the Iftar on Thursday, noting that the issue of redistribution of seats has been dismissed.

Prior to the meeting, Interior Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq said that “he thinks there are some breakthroughs in the issue of the electoral law,” noting that resorting to the 1960s law has become difficult.

In turn, Minister Ali Qanso stated that there is no need to reduce the number of deputies from 128 to 108, reiterating his refusal to the redistribution of parliamentary seats.

On another note, Energy Minister Cesar Abi Khalil stressed that “whoever insults them will pay the price,” adding that “MP Boutros Harb has been bringing his information from newspapers.”
