The Lebanese people did not show any interest in the warnings and information spread about potential terrorist attacks to hit the country in the upcoming few days, information that led five embassies of western countries to issue warnings to their nationals in Lebanon.
Accordingly, the activity at the malls was normal without any added security measures. The people did not care for the rumors that were spread through voice messages via WhatsApp circulating false information.
However, unlike many countries, there is no guide in Lebanon regarding means to deal with terrorist threats. Some people say that the events occurring in western countries despite the warnings means that the measures they take are not enough or not effective.
But instead of having these warnings sent by the embassies to their nationals, shouldn’t the Lebanese authorities have a specific procedure in this regard?
In the United State and Britain for example, there is a warning system dedicated for potential terrorist attacks that sends warnings to the citizens through media outlets or via text messages on their mobile phones and which categorizes the threat into five levels: SEVERE in RED, HIGH in ORANGE, ELEVATED in YELLOW, GUARDED in BLUE and LOW in GREEN.
