Aoun postpones visit to Kuwait, stresses importance of national unity
President Michel Aoun carried out on Saturday a series of phone calls with several political and religious leaders whereby he stressed the importance of preserving the national unity and ​Lebanon's political and security stability following Prime Minister Saad Hariri’s resignation.
 
Aoun also noted that the achievements made during the past year must be preserved, adding that the country’s supreme interests must remain a top priority.
He also said that the Israeli threats launched against Lebanon require from the Lebanese people to cement their ranks to address them.
This as President Aoun phone called Speaker Nabih Berri, heads and representatives of various political parties that are represented in the government.
He also called Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai, Mufti Abdel Latif Derian and Mufti Sheikh Ahmad Kabalan.
Aoun also called Minister of Finance Ali Hassan Khalil and Governor of Banque Du Libam Riyad Salameh who briefed him about the financial situation of the country.
The president also held talks over the phone with Interior Minister Nouhad Machnouq, Justice Minister Salim Jreissati, Minister of Defense Yaacoud Sarraf and head of Banks Association Joseph Tarabay.
He also gave his directives for the heads of security and military apparatuses to take the appropriate measures in order to preserve the country’s stability and security.
This as Aoun agreed with Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Jaber al-Ahmad al-Sabah to postpone his official visit to Kuwait.
