REPORT: Gap between number of Christian and Muslim voters widens in Lebanon

Year after year, the gap between the Christian voters and the Muslim voters widens in Lebanon.

The difference was clearly obvious this year in comparison with 2009.

In 2009, the Muslim voters were 60.3% while the Christians were 39.5%. However, in 2017, the Muslims constitute 63.7% of the voters, while the Christians 36.2%.

In Beirut for example, the number of Christian voters decreased by 3.3%, dropping from 121,640 voters in 2009 to 117,587 in 2017; while the Muslim voters increased by 20.1%.

The reason behind this change is the decrease in Christian births and the presence of a large number of them abroad.
