President Michel Aoun stressed Wednesday the necessity to abolish gender-based difference and enhance equality between men and women in Lebanon.
Speaking at a consultative meeting on Women's Day at Baabda palace, Aoun indicated that "our societies are patriarchal par excellence," emphasizing the need to enhance gender-based equality. "Do not allow the patriarchal society to affect your mindset; I am telling you this because the recent electoral statistics proved that women rarely vote for other women," he said.
“Do not wait for men to relinquish what he considers his role and right, do not wait for your role to be granted to you through a quota, but take the initiative, raise your voice and impose your presence in the political life from the position of the actor rather than the receiver,” Aoun said addressing Lebanese women.
