REPORT: Gemayel meets Rai, tackles Article 50 of state’s budget

Head of Kataeb party MP Sami Gemayel said on Friday that changing the term 'permanent' residence into 'temporary' in the controversial article 50 of the state’s Budget would not change the problem.

Gemayel added that the issue is linked to the ownership, and would legitimize the presence of Syrians in Lebanon indefinitely.

Gemayel’s comments were made during talks with Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai in Bkerke.

“After 10 years, they can demand citizenship and Lebanon may be put under pressure to give it to them," Gemayel concluded by saying.
