Prior to the cabinet session held at Baabda presidential palace, Minister Ali Qanso revealed that he has a proposal for bringing electricity from Syria, explaining that Lebanon would purchase 800 megawatts with a price lower than that of the power ships. He stressed that there is readiness for immediate execution.
For his part, Industry Minister Hussein Hajj Hassan emphasized that tenders must be held for every state project, adding that “if electricity was available to Lebanon from Syria, why shouldn’t we buy it?”
In turn, Health Minister Ghassan Hasbani stated that there are several issues related to electricity that have been pending since 2013.
He noted that a ministerial plan regarding the power ships and a final report must be presented to the cabinet.
In this regard, Energy Minister Cesar Abi Khalil declared that the proposal concerning the electricity from Syria is to be discussed during the cabinet session, pointing out that he will suggest procedures to compensate for the delay in the electricity plan. “the cabinet is the entity authorized to finalize these matters,” he said.
