Mikati calls on Lebanese diaspora in Brazil to partake in upcoming parliamentary elections
Prime Minister Najib Mikati stressed Friday Lebanon's commitment to sustainable development "which should be a priority to all countries and peoples."

During the U.N. Conference for Sustainable Development held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Mikati said that Lebanon sets an example for others to follow in regards to the balance between achieving sustainable development, security, peace and stability, “especially in societies emerging from armed conflict”.

Mikati said that sustainable development cannot be achieved without a just and lasting peace for all peoples, reiterating Lebanon's support to the Palestinians’ right to self-determination and right to return to their homeland. In this regard, Mikati stressed his rejection of the settlement of Palestinians in countries including Lebanon.

"Joint efforts should be exerted by all countries in order to draw a unified program for sustainable development", Mikati stressed.

Mikati met with the Lebanese diaspora in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo in a reception headed by the Consul General of Lebanon in Sao Paulo Ali Daher, and called on all the Lebanese emigrants to head to the Lebanese embassies and consulates to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

The Premiere stressed that the Arab region is passing through a critical phase, adding that the Lebanese have always known how to deal with difficult times and have always showed solidarity with one another.

Addressing Lebanese emigrants, he said “Lebanon is fine and we are waiting for you to come to Lebanon at any time; your presence there is essential in order to prove to the world that Lebanon fears no one, and that it will keep its head held high for having people like you, people who have faith in it and in its role in the [Arab] region and the world," the Premiere concluded.
