Free Patriotic Movement chief MP Gebran Bassil saluted the Lebanese Armed Forces on the first anniversary of “Fajr al-Jouroud” operation, praising the role of the army and its commander on several levels.
Following the weekly meeting of the “Strong Lebanon” bloc, he noted that the refugee crisis cannot be resolved without an independent national decision, adding the Russian initiative creates a balance on the international level, so that the return would not be linked to the political solution.
“We are bound to prioritize the interest of Lebanon and its economy, as well as the interest of the Syrian people in their return rather than seeking regional interests,” he stated.
On the issue of the cabinet formation, Bassil pointed out that “he was asked by several ambassadors about the cabinet formation and he always answered in a polite and diplomatic manner that this a matter related to internal affairs,” hoping that this spirit will be adopted in the formation process.
In this context, he said that the president’s share in the government is not linked to a certain period, hoping that strategic mistakes committed after the Taef Accord in a bid to achieve political gains will not be repeated.
