Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil stressed the need to end all forms of leaking diplomatic cables, especially if it came in a systematic manner, whether to media outlets or other parties outside the ministry.
During an oath taking ceremony for new diplomats, Bassil noted that leaking the Washington reports was placed in a political framework, adding that they followed the necessary judicial norms.
“I sent a letter to Beirut’s prosecutor to launch investigation,” he said, pointing out that immunity has been lifted off some employees.
The minister hoped that the person responsible for leak is not a member of the diplomatic corps, stating that his main concern is the truthwhile protecting the freedom of the press.
