MP Samy Gemayel said that “what happened was a victory for Lebanon’s future and not for a party over the other,” adding that the uprising was civilized, peaceful and was praised by all the countries around the world.
In a press conference, the Kataeb party chief said that the resignation of the cabinet is only the beginning, noting that the battle has not yet ended.
“The people demanded a neutral cabinet and we must respect the popular will,” he said, calling for holding quick consultation to name a neutral prime minister who will form a cabinet of experts in order to kick off the right course of work.
“A reform budget must be passed as a first mission, while the second task is to hold early parliamentary elections,” he stressed.
In this context, Gemayel said that the Kataeb party prepared a draft law on shortening the mandate of the parliament to hold early elections by May 2020.
He also called for passing a law to cancel the salaries of former deputies.
