Dib to LBCI: we call for normal relation with Syria, “neither special nor poor”

Member of Change and Reform bloc, MP Hekmat Dib called on Saturday for securing a normal relation with Syria, noting that whoever has an objection can present his remarks via diplomatic channels.              

In an interview with Nharkom Said, Dib pointed that “we should not rush in expelling the Syrian ambassador to Lebanon and closing the Syrian embassy”, stressing that this issue should be solved within diplomatic and political frameworks.       

Dib noted that the parties who seek to expel the Syrian ambassador, used to consider its presence necessary and legitimate, and benefitted from the Syrian regime to control the country, “now that the Syrian regime weakened, they call for the expulsion of the Syrian ambassador”, he added.               

Commenting on former Minister Michel Samaha’s case, MP Hekmat Dib confirmed that everyone involved in this case must be prosecuted, noting that positions should not be built on leaked information. He stressed that everyone should wait for the results of the official investigations to be issued.              

“We denounce all forms of violence and killings occurring in Syria, and we call for further rights for the Syrian people as we are worried from the alternative because previous experiences are not encouraging”, he said, commenting on the Syrian crisis.
