Chammas: Ball is now in court of traders, some private sector’s companies

General Secretary of Lebanese Economic Organizations Nicolas Chammas said on Tuesday that the economic organizations decided to stop working for 3 days.

Chammas’s comments were made during a press conference whereby he said that such a decision aims "to put pressure in favor of a Cabinet formation that will satisfy the civil society, as well as the business and International communities."

“The lack of growth, unemployment and absence of liquidity and the US dollars will lead to an economic and social instability,” he added.

“What we are witnessing today resembles the era of the Great Depression in 1920,” Chammas stressed.

He called on the Lebanese leaders “to heed to the calls of the Lebanese people after letting them down.”

Chammas also said that “one of the main risks that affected the Lebanese economy is the Syrian refugee crisis.”

On another note, he stressed that “the capital control” has become a reality in Lebanon, adding that that there is a risk if the public debt is restructured.

He concluded by saying that the ball is now in the court of traders and some private sector’s companies, calling on the Lebanese state to shoulder its responsibility.
