What are the reasons behind Safadi’s abstention from the elections?

Minister of Finance Mohammad Safadi will not be participating in next year’s elections as per his declaration on Wednesday.            

According to a statement released by his media office, Safadi’s reasons are purely personal.           

Safadi stated that he would not be taking this subject to the media, adding that his advisers will be the ones to answer questions.              

According to those same advisers, Safadi’s health is not the issue; otherwise he would have resigned “a long time ago.”                             

The minister works up to 12 hours a day, the aforementioned sources stressed, adding that his reasons for abstention are neither of an electoral nor political nature.                 

What is it then? Everyone asks.                         

Even parties close to the minister seem to have been shocked by his decision, citing that they had not had the time to discuss it with him.                    

So speculations now arise, will Safadi return to the political scene after higher demands?
